Richard Tanner was a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral prior to his musical studies at the Royal Academy. He became Organ Scholar at Exeter College, Oxford and St Albans Cathedral and spent five years as Director of Music at All Saints’ Church Northampton. He was appointed to his present post as Organist and Director of Music at Blackburn Cathedral in June 1998 where the music programme has grown considerably under his leadership. He is a regular musical director and organist on Radio 4’s Daily Service and has worked on BBC TV’s Songs of Praise as conductor, organist, arranger or musical adviser on a number of occasions. In increasing demand as a conductor, he has worked with a number of orchestras and ensembles and is also well known as a record producer and recitalist.
