Malcolm Riley was born in Northallerton and raised in Harrogate. From 1978-81 he was organ scholar of Christ’s College, Cambridge before spending a post-graduate year at Homerton College, Cambridge. He then spent three years teaching in Bristol at Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital before taking up his present post as Director of Music at Cranbrook School in Kent. In addition to the busy ‘day job’ he also finds time to conduct the Cranbrook and District Choral Society and Cranbrook Sinfonia, to review discs for Gramophone and to serve as Secretary of the Percy Whitlock Trust. Malcolm has written extensively on the life and music of Whitlock (including two critically-acclaimed books). He has also released a solo CD of organ music (from St Bride’s Fleet Street) and – as conductor – a disc of English orchestral music by George Butterworth and Walter Leigh.
