Sunday at the Priory

Sunday is a day of rest
(unless you’re a Cub Scout)

Sunday at the Priory Church was busy, busy, busy for the 1st Bridlington Cub Scout Pack.

The morning congregation was amazed to find that they had come to witness the finals of the 1st Bridlington Cub Pack beauty competition. Alice and Kirby were on the panel of judges with a member of the congregation. The finalists were Kieran with the muscles, Heather with the brains, and Danny. Danny had seemed to mess things up on the day by looking after a Beaver (William). William felt unwell, and collapsed on the floor of the Priory Church before he could get out. Danny saw to him, then turned up late, her clothes in a mess, and was too flustered to answer a simple general knowledge question (“What are the 64 moons of Jupiter called?”).

However, the judges unanimously agreed that when it came to beauty, Danny had more than the rest of them put together. It was worth coming just to find that out.

As soon as the morning service was over, the Cubs went out into the Priory grounds, and persuaded the Verger, David Kemp, to put up some bird boxes they had made during the previous week. He did not even have time to get his cassock off.

The whole 1st Bridlington Scout Group (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts) is working with the Priory team to improve the habitat in the churchyard for wildlife as part of the “Living Churchyard” project.

The Scout Movement encourages children to contribute to their local communities. It also provides a safe environment for children to get out of doors. For further information about the 1st Bridlington Beaver Colony (6-8 year olds), Cub Pack (8- 10 ½ year olds) and Scouts (10 ½-14 year olds) phone David Butland on 01262 601788.

Heather (with the brains) is seen presenting a bird box she had made, to the Verger. He obviously thought he had done a pretty good job when it was over.
